After nearly 7 years working in visual design mainly in Paris, I had discovered my passion for a user centered approach and decided to make a career change to fully focus on UX Design.
Since then, I am advocating user centered approach and design decisions based on data. For the design concepts I work on, I usually use my findings from usability tests coupled with analytics to make informed design decisions. Usage of data also helps to find a compromise where different business stakeholders have different perspectives and can’t easily agree on one approach. In this case, the final solution can be guided with objective user centered insights.
From my perspective, main goal of UX design is to find a design solution that is not only makes sense from design perspective and works well for users, but also meets clients’/businesses’ requirements/criteria and solves their problem(s). I see my collaboration with businesses as a partnership were we sit together and and work on providing an optimal design solution.
At the same time, sticking to an iterative approach it’s also important where we can go agile and pick a good enough solution to be improved in next iterations. I’ve been working in agile environment for more than 4 years already, and see how crucial is to resist this temptation to provide a “perfect” design.
